Does uterine prolapse hurt?

Just because you have a uterine prolapse, does not mean you will experience pain. Many women with prolapse have no symptoms. Often these asymptomatic women do not know they have prolapse.

A uterine prolapse is not often described as “painful.” Many women describe embarrassing or uncomfortable symptoms.

These symptoms may interfere with your daily activities and quality of life. If you’re experiencing moderate to severe pain, it is unlikely (though not impossible) that your pain is a result of a uterine prolapse.

Always seek medical care promptly if you are experiencing severe pain. It could be the result of a more serious condition.

Common signs and symptoms of a uterine prolapse include:

  • feeling of heaviness or pressure in the pelvis
  • discomfort with sexual activity
  • discomfort when sitting or walking
  • changes in your urinary and bowel habits

All of these symptoms may worsen when you stand or walk for prolonged periods. Sometimes they worsen throughout the day.
